When All Hell Broke Loose                                                      “In the Beginning”

The Garden of Eden  – – See Genesis 2:8-17,25

  1. Of all the things that could have been said to summarize life in the Garden of Eden, it was that it was ____________________.
  2. God created an opportunity — a choice — to make sure that the __________________________ between Him and human beings was really going to be a _________________________.

The Temptation—Genesis 3:1-6, Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,  but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will  die.’” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

  1. 3. Who is Satan?   Jesus _____________________________.

The Fall – – Genesis 3:7-13, 14-19, 20-24

  1. Result of the Fall, Eve turned from her dependence on God, so now she would depend ________________ — this allows    the husband, or man, to take _____________________ .

Romans 8:22, “We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.”

  1. God let us ___________, and we did, and our ____________  have brought continual pain and heartache and destruction

The Birds and the Bees                                                            “In the Beginning”

Genesis 1:27, 2:7, 18, 21-24, So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them… Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being…. 18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him….” 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, He took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib He had taken out of the man, and He brought her to the man.23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

  1. We were _______________…in________________________.
  2. When God created us, He intentionally created ___________. He deliberately made us a ___________ of man and a ________  of woman.
Biology 101: What Makes us Male or Female?

                                                                                                                                                    b) External sexual anatomy.

d) And the presence or absence of a Y chromosome.

“This means that _____________ isn’t just about what you do or how you feel. It is about who you are and who you were made and __________________________________.”

Two Different Categories:

B. Gender Identity — the psychological aspects associated with being male or female… _____________________.

Genesis 1:28, God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Deuteronomy 22:5  A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 1:26-27 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

1 Corinthians 6:18-19  Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

  1. We were ________________________.

Date: Summer of 1925; Location: Dayton, TN; Issue: Scopes Trial. Biology teacher John Scopes was charged with violating a law in Tennessee that said, you cannot teach evolution. Winner: __________________________________.

Here is the real issue: The real divide is between a ___________ view of the universe that sees nature as all that there is, and a _________________________ view of the universe that remains very much open to the existence and activity of a “God.”

The Problem Evolution Has…

A. The experts admit, there wasn’t enough ________________.
B. Evolutionists admit that initially life may have been too  _____________________.
C. How did a purely naturalistic evolutionary process create ever-increasing _____________________.
D. How did _____________ come from _______________.
2.We were made in the very ___________________________.

#1: How does _________________________ evolve naturalistic out of a pool of primordial slime?

#2: Why are we so incurably __________________________?

#3: Where do we get our inner sense of _________________?

A Creative Perspective                                       “ In the Beginning”

  1. In beginning a study, it’s good to remember these  3 things:
A. It’s a ________________ book.
B. It’s written in _______________________ observational (phenomenological) language.
C. In the beginning, It’s written in __________ (specifically a combination of prose narrative and epic poem.

Genesis 1:1-2, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty , darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

  1. The opening headline says 2 things:
A. In the beginning ___________.      B. He ______________.

Some Big Bang Facts

Dr. Edwin Hubble — it’s his theory. At one time — all matter was packed into a dense mass (at outrageous temperatures) and then about 13.8 billion years ago — explosion. On April 24, 1992, the Cosmic Background Explorer satellite (COBE), gave stunning confirmation of the universe’s “hot Big Bang creation event.”

  1. Here are the problems:
A. We know that ______________________ cannot come

from nothing.

B. We also know that the universe isn’t ________________.
C. Million dollar question:  Where did the stuff that got ________________ come from  and who ________________ it?
4. About the word “Day”… how could God have wanted to inspire the writer of Genesis to convey scientific precision about literal, 24-hour solar days when, according to the text _____________

____________________ weren’t even created until the 4th day.

See Genesis 1:3-31; 2:1-3.  (Pew Bible, page 1)

  1. As for the first week of creation, it can be divided into two parts: 3 days of _____________ and 3 days of _____________.

For Additional Biblical References — 2 Corinthians 4:5-7’ Job9:9; Deuteronomy 4:19; and, Isaiah 45:10-15.

Killing Giants                                                                     “No Different”

1 Samuel 17:1-3 Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Sokoh and Azekah. Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines.  The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them.

See 1 Samuel 17:4-31; pew Bible page  445

God’s Leadership in Your Life

“No Different”

Exodus 13:21-22, “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.”  Numbers 14:14 and Nehemiah 9:12

Exodus 33:7-11, “Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the ‘tent of meeting.’ Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent.  The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend…”

  1. If you want to know what God says to you about something, go to where He has already ______________________; in other words, go to the _____________________.  Psalm 32:8,119: 24-32, 104-105
  2. Talking with God as if talking to a _____________; which means not only talking but ________________. This is Prayer. Psalm 46:10; 130:5
  3. There are people who walk with God and have lived full enough to have knowledge and experience come together and form a very rare commodity: ________________________________.                           Proverbs 12:15; 15:22, 19:20; and 20:18

John 16:7, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.”

  1. The Holy Spirit takes up residence in your life and leads and guides and prompts from ___________________.
  2. How do I know if a prompting is from God or not?
A. Does it ______________ the truth of the Bible?
B. Does it ______________ love for God and people?
C. Does it ______________ a Godly conviction?
6. God can and does ________________________ and create opportunities for you. These are God-directed opportunities. Acts 16:6-8

WHAT IS IT?                                                                                          “No Different”

See Exodus 16 (pew Bible, pg. 112)

1. God gave them special food called ____________________?

2. God wants our __________________ on Him to be as dangerously close to daily as possible.

See Matthew 6:9-13 (pew Bible pg. 1504)

Matthew 6:26, 28-30, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith?”

3. If there is one central truth to all the Bible it is this: You                    ______________________ to God!

Matthew 6:31-32, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.”

4. Two Qualifiers:                                                                                     a. This is ___________ an invitation to passivity. Meaning —             “All I have to do is pray for daily bread; God will give it, so no need to _______________ for it.”                                                                     b. We need to be careful __________ to confuse asking for our daily bread — a ____________ — with our daily ____________.

5. Praying for “my daily bread” carries with it the idea that perhaps, as I pray, I may be the ____________ to provide God’s bread to another who is praying.

He Will Rescue Us                                              “No Different”

See Exodus 14, Pew Bible page 108.

1. The God of the universe, the One leading the people of Israel, ___________________________ in this trap.

Exodus 14:4, “…I will gain glory for Myself through Pharaoh and all his army….”

2. It’s only when there is no escape, no way out… that you do the two most important things one can do with God:

                a) __________________________.

                b) __________________________.

3. There are four things Moses doesn’t want you to miss:

 a) Don’t _____________________.

b) Stand ____________________.

c) _________________________.
d) Stay __________ (or ________________).

4. Notice a couple of things:

         a) God took ________________ of the situation the children of God were in.

Exodus 14:19-20, “Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them,  coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.”

b) God provided a way out — an __________________.

Psalm 106:9-13 (The Message) “He rebuked the Red Sea so that it dried up on the spot —He paraded them right through! —no one so much as got wet feet! He saved them from a life of oppression, pried them loose from the grip of the enemy. Then the waters flowed back on their oppressors; there wasn’t a single survivor. Then they believed His words were true and broke out in songs of praise. But it wasn’t long before they forgot the whole thing…”.
