What Shapes Your Conscience
“Our Guilt Trip”
Guilt is like a non-stop accusation, a screaming voice that tears us down, attacking us for our past mistakes, failures and sins, leading us into a downward spiral of self-destruction if it’s not handled appropriately. So this Sunday, we’re making sure we know how “guilt” operates.

1. Definition of guilt: An ______________ response to the perception that we have broken a rule or fallen short of a standard.

2. The problem for many of us is that your conscience isn’t always _______________________.

1John 3:19-20, “This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything.

3. Fact: Your ___________________ have played huge roles in shaping your conscience.

4. Fact: Your religious background – What you were told about ____________ and what you experienced about __________ also shapes your conscience.

5. Fact: The _____________________ into which you were born and/or raised shapes your conscience.

6. Fact: Certain _____________________________________ or decisions you’ve made shapes your conscience.

7. Fact: ________________________ affects your conscience.

Revelation 12:10, “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: ‘Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.”

John 8:44, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
