Sermon Notes July 16, 2023

Your Last Name                                                       “What’s in a Name?”

Revelation 2:1,8 “To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of Him who holds the seven stars in His hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands…. To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of Him who is the First and the Last, who came to life again.”

Revelation 2:17, “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.”

1. We’ve discovered that back in those days, people would use certain white stones like we would use ____________   _____________. And sometimes there would be things written on these white stones.

2. White stones were also used in ancient ____________.           A white stone would mean a vote for ________________.

3. The white stone would be both the declaration that you have been found ____________________ of your sin and that you have been admitted into ____________________.

4. Remember, in the Bible someone’s name was something  significant. To know someone’s name meant that you knew their _______________________, you knew their ___________________.

5. The first of God’s call is to your __________________.   If that call is answered, a second call comes. There is a third call, upon entering heaven, to live out your fullest and deepest name for ___________________.
