“My Turn-offs Are…”                                           “A Faith for Following”

1. Legalism… a religion of added rules and regulations contrived by someone to determine who is, and who is not, ___________.

2. The Jewish community calculated the Old Testament Law contained 248 commandments and ____________ prohibitions.

      a) So they added more that 1,500 additions to help keep all             those laws. Called the _________________________.

      b) That wasn’t enough protection, they added more called the  _______________________________.

      c) Together that is called the _______________________,

Luke 11:46, “Jesus replied, ‘And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.’”

Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

3. Judgementalism… people who are prideful, who act morally superior and find ____________________ with everybody else.

Matthew 7:1-5, Do not judge, or you too will be judged.  For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

4. Sometimes when people say “Don’t judge me” it is a code for: “Don’t you dare say that ____________________ I do is wrong.”

5. Hypocrisy… Doesn’t have anything to do with ___________.
                                                              See: Matthew 23

6. The Wrong Idea: Being Christian means being _________, and being a hypocrite means saying you’re a Christian and not being ____________________.

7. The opposite of hypocrisy is not ___________________, it is spiritual authenticity.

8. Three Kinds of Tolerance:   a) Legal: 1st amendment right to believe __________ you want.
                                                b) Social: accepting someone else as a human being _________ what they believe.
                                                c) Intellectual: accepting _________________ idea, choice, lifestyle as being equally valid, good, right and/or true.
