Okay, Then What’s Up With All the Rules?           Who’s Up for Heaven?”

Review: Two assumptions —

(1) All good people go to heaven; and, (2) I’m good people.
These assumptions make sense: It sounds fair; and, it nurtures the idea, we have a good God.

Unfortunately, problems arise with these assumptions  a) Good is a moving target. b) The Bible is the standard, however… c) God isn’t as good as we thought. d) and Jesus is mistaken.

Real Question: Have you ever mistreated another person? Jesus said: “If you mistreat someone God loves, you’ve sinned against God!”

Today’s Conversation:

  1. If rule keeping _________________ get you into heaven, then why all the rules?
  2. Remember, Israel had been a slave state for 400 years. They had no _____________________.
  3. When it comes to the God we worship, ______________  always proceeds the rules.

Exodus 20:1-2  And God spoke all these words: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

                                                                                                                           See Exodus 20:3-17

  1. The People of God didn’t ___________ their way in and they couldn’t ______________________ their way out.

Romans 5:8,10, But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, 11 And to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
