Application for Life                                  “How to Bible”

What about the Old Testament?                                          1. The “New Agreement” God made with you didn’t                     ___________ the Old Agreement (Testament). It fulfilled it. Some Examples:  a. The Passover,                                Luke 22:19-20, “And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’  In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.’”

“The church is the new _________________________ and through Jesus, the Passover has reached its ultimate fulfillment and celebration.”

b. “Eye for an Eye,” (See Deuteronomy 21.) Matthew 5:  38-42, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.  And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.  If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.  Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.’”

“Eye for an Eye” was a principle meaning compensation and restitution was to be in direct ____________________  to the crime.

What about Culture?

2. The Problem with “cultural stuff,” you must make sure that you don’t take the culture of that day and let it get confused with the __________________________________.

Example: Women’s Dress in the Church. 1 Timothy 2:9, I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes…”

1Timothy 2:10…10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

1John 2:4-6,  Whoever says, ‘I know Him,’ but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys His word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did.

Hebrews 4:12-13, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

3. The Real Question… Is not ________ to apply the Bible; it’s whether or not you are ___________ to apply the Bible.
