The God of Two Parties

“It’s a Bloody Mess”

1.  A recent question: It’s not whether God exists but if He does, ________________________________________?

2. What is a “Testament?” It means _________________, ____________________, or _______________________.

Galatians 3:24, “So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith.”

Hebrews 9:15, “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

3. Jesus and the New Testament didn’t _______________ the old covenant — it ________________________ them

4. Today’s Question: Do these _____________________ reveal two different pictures of God?

See John 1:18; John 5:19

Nahum 1:2-3, “The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath.  The Lord takes vengeance on His foes and vents His wrath against His enemies. The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of His feet.

Isaiah 6:1-2, In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above Him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.”

Isaiah 6:3-7, And they were calling to one another:

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

5.  Holiness is not something that God puts on. Holiness is something __________________________________________________.
